RICHARD ALRED was born in West Yorkshire in 1947, trained in drawing and painting at the Colleges of Art in Bradford and Edinburgh, and later in Liverpool where he gained his teaching certificate. Following a period of teaching in Bradford his time is now fully devoted to painting, but he is also involved as an Art Teacher in Adult Education in Yorkshire. With a great love of Scotland, much of Richard’s work features the Western Highlands, but the scenic beauty of Perthshire is also a favourite subject. He works mainly in watercolour and chalk pastel. Richard exhibits regularly in Scotland, frequently in Perthshire and particularly here in this Gallery. Other Scottish venues include Hanover Fine Arts, Edinburgh and the Broughton Gallery, Biggar. Richard’s work is widely known and many of his paintings are commissioned as well as being privately owned throughout Britain, USA, Canada and Europe. Â

"When staying in Pitlochry during the early part of the war, I chanced to see a stately house with a fairly large garden, quite close to the town. I at once realised that here my dream theatre might well be established in this fashionable resort right in the heart of Scotland"… John Stewart, Founder of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
