Having studied Higher Art at Irvine Royal Academy, Margaret spent all her working life as a Primary teacher and latterly as a Depute Head, where she encouraged her pupils to embrace all forms of dramatic and artistic activities. She is a Past President of Troon Art Club which has a membership of over 120, and has gained the club trophy four times, for both landscapes and portraiture. She has also gained awards at the North Ayrshire Open Art Exhibition, open to both professional and amateur artists. This year Margaret won the ┬áMervyn ┬áPeake Award for Parkinsons U.K. Her preferred medium is water based oils. The subject matter dictates her method of working i.e. fine brushwork or palette knife for vigorous layers. Her range of subjects is wide and varied, including charcoal and pencil work. Margaret paints for pleasure and she never repeats a painting. Her paintings are really ‘one offs ‘and have found homes in many parts of the UK America and Australia.
