New Artistic Director Announced

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is delighted to announce that Elizabeth Newman has been appointed as its new Artistic Director from September this year.

Elizabeth joins Pitlochry from the Octagon Theatre Bolton where she has been Artistic Director from 2015 and Associate Director from 2010. Previously, she was Artistic Director of Shared Property Theatre Company and Acting Artistic Director of Southwark Playhouse.

In her career, Elizabeth has received awards for Women of Social Leadership, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, and Bolton Woman of the Year. Last year her work was recognised by The Stage amongst the Best Shows of 2017 across the UK.

Kris Bryce, Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s Executive Director, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth to Pitlochry. The recruitment panel was hugely impressed by her artistic vision for the Theatre. Her manner, approach and achievements inspired us all. Elizabeth joins us at an exciting time and we can all look forward to Elizabeth’s building on the Theatre’s successes as she sets out her own artistic vision both now and after the dramatic changes which its forthcoming creative and capital development programme will bring.”

Colin Liddell, the Theatre’s Chair, said:

“This is another significant moment in Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s 67 year history, with the appointment today of Elizabeth Newman as only our sixth Artistic Director. Elizabeth has enjoyed an impressive career to date and joins us at a time when our Theatre is reaching out both to existing and new audiences, through the creation of more productions than any other theatre in Scotland, and our increased community activities.”

Commenting on her new role, Elizabeth said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to become a part of Pitlochry Festival Theatre. It’s hugely exciting to join such an inspirational organisation. I cannot wait to lead the Theatre’s artistic programme as we endeavour to reach more people throughout Scotland and beyond. We have ambitious plans to make change happen at the Theatre in the Hills and I am thrilled to be on this journey with Kris, his team, and the Board.”
