A Christmas Carol opens in Pitlochry

It’s time to Deck The Halls, now the long-awaited festive show, A Christmas Carol has burst onto the stage at Pitlochry Festival Theatre over the weekend, in a trumpet call of live music, traditional carols, a maze of Christmas trees and some ghostly goings on!

Despite a trio of ethereal spirits taking Scrooge on his flights to Christmas Past, Present and Future, the show was ablaze with creative and colourful costumes, inventive and innovative set, as well as the exceptional performances for which the theatre is acclaimed. The opening shows met not only with spontaneous and rapturous applause from an audience drawn from far and wide - Surrey to Orkney, County Kildare to Cowdenbeath, from Sweden, Switzerland and Canada - but full-on festive singing and dancing too!

Pitlochry’s Scrooge, Perth-born star of stage, and screen, Colin McCredie, led the way and, sufficient to say, the spellbound audience could see the Pitlochry team have been working long and late to make sure each beloved aspect of the original story, came to life.

The multi-talented, multi-instrument-laden, 20-strong cast - including three sets of four, local, young performers, each taking important roles in the show - clearly loved every minute of the music-packed Christmas production, the energy jumping off the stage. It’s all there - everything you could wish for, in an unmissable festive, theatre trip!
