Pitlochry Festival Theatre Applauds CATS Nomination for Trilogy Actress

Pitlochry Festival Theatre (PFT) is delighted that Gemma McElhinney has been nominated in the Best Actress category of the Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) for her three roles in PFT's production of Alan Ayckbourn's Damsels In Distress trilogy, which formed part of the 2016 Summer Season.

John Durnin, PFT's Artistic Director, commented:

“The Damsels trilogy was a major undertaking for PFT. Not only was this the first time since its West End run in 2002 that this extraordinary trilogy had been produced, this was also the first time that we had attempted to stage a mini-repertoire of three plays using the same actors within the larger Summer repertoire season.

This huge challenge required performers of immense skill, versatility, stamina and absolute commitment. Whilst all seven of the Damsels company rose magnificently to the occasion, Gemma's finely nuanced and hugely varied performances as Kelly Butcher in GamePlan, Rosie Seymore in FlatSpin and Paige Petite in RolePlay fully deserved this recognition from the CATS judging panel. Gemma already won the 2016 Leon Sinden Award for the Best Performance in a Supporting Role for Kelly in GamePlan – an award voted for by PFT`s own audiences – so to now have all three of her excellent Damsels performances recognised in this way is very pleasing.

Everyone at PFT is thrilled at this news and we all wish Gemma the very best of luck!”

The CATS Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 11 June at Edinburgh Festival Theatre.
