Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross in Pitlochry

Ricky Ross, lead singer and founding member of well-loved, hit band, Deacon Blue, is heading for Pitlochry Festival Theatre for an exclusive concert performance, next Saturday, 3 November at 7.30pm.

One of Britain’s finest and respected singer-songwriters, Ricky is also a familiar name in radio presenting, most recently having taken over the BBC Radio 2 Folk ProgrammeAhead of the band's UK Tour, in this exclusive Pitlochry concert, Ricky Ross will be covering tracks from his latest solo album and revisiting some of the Deacon Blue’s most well-known songs.

Ricky Ross formed Deacon Blue over 30 years ago launching their debut album, Raintown. A string of best-sellers followed: When the World Knows Your Name, Fellow Hoodlums, Whatever You Say, Say Nothing and a double-platinum compilation, Our Town – The Greatest Hits, which included Real Gone Kid, Fergus Sings the Blues, Dignity, Wages Day, Twist And Shout and many others.

When Deacon Blue split in 2005, Ricky built a career in lyrics, both for his own albums, and writing for or with other artists - James Blunt, Ronan Keating, Jamie Cullum, Nanci Griffith and others – and now has a string of solo albums to his name, including Pale Rider, Trouble Came Looking, and now Short Stories Vol. 1 drawing from his solo shows.

In Ricky's own words: "This album is like a souvenir of my solo shows, which are a very different beast to Deacon Blue live. They're intimate, minimal, a chance for me to revisit songs that started out life with just piano and vocals and take them back to their roots, as well as play some new songs inspired by recent times."

Ricky will be supported by Edinburgh-based Roseanne Reid who, at 24, has achieved more in her career as a solo acoustic act than most do in a lifetime. Roseanne's melodic, honest, organic writing style and distinct smoky vocals allow her to paint musical pictures and have gained her a spot in the Radio 2 Folk Award Nominations, appearances on the Simon Mayo show, along with a loyal following that continues to grow.

While Deacon Blue prepare for a rapidly selling out, UK-wide tour in a few weeks’ time, you can catch the musical legend that is Ricky Ross here in Pitlochry now.
