Jill Jackson supports Barbara & Rab

Glasgow-based, award-winning Americana artist, Jill Jackson, performs in support of Barbara Dickson and Rab Noakes, this Sunday, 13 August, 8pm.

Jackson first burst on to the UK music scene as the front-woman of rock band Speedway, scoring several top ten UK hits, including a cover of Christina Aguilera’s Genie in a Bottle.

Embarking on a solo career, she moved away from pop and rock, developing an authentic Americana musical style through which her true talents emerged, her lyricism provoking powerful reviews.

“Jill Jackson is a songwriting storyteller, transporting you into her world through music. Lyrically and vocally tender, beautifully depicting life, love and loss with each well-crafted song. A voice reminiscent of the late Karen Carpenter, Jackson’s voice aches with emotion and honesty, drawing you in line by line.”

Jill Jackson has supported and toured with a number of high profile artists such as Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Albert Lee, Roger McGuinn as well as writing for former Spice Girl Melanie C. But her major career turning point came late in 2011 with her hard copy-only album The Ones That Got Away. Jill says it gave her, “a chance to be totally free musically without pressure or restrictions,” and it lead to the formation of a new project band, ’The Chaplins’, winning the prestigious Celtic Connections Danny Kyle award in 2014.

Supporting iconic artists, Barbara Dickson and Rab Noakes this weekend, Jill Jackson brings a further resonating dimension to the evening, giving even more reason, if any were needed, to see these memorable live performances.
