Old Blind Dogs storm into Pitlochry this Friday

The multi-award-winning and Scots Trad Music awards nominees, Old Blind Dogs take to the Pitlochry Festival Theatre stage this Friday, 5 April, 7.30pm, to carry us storming into the weekend.

The legendary band bounded into their 25th anniversary year with a cracking new album Room With A View, playing to full houses across Scotland, USA and Germany. With a line-up from the world of Scottish folk music that is approaching superstar status, founder member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals) is joined by Aaron Jones (guitar/bouzouki/vocals), Ali Hutton (pipes) and Donald Hay (percussion).

Over the years, Jonny has been involved in many other musical collaborations, performing on, arranged or produced over 50 CDs in his career (so far) recording and performing with artists as diverse as Kylie Minogue and The Chieftains with Ry Cooder.

Aaron continues to tour worldwide and record with many of the biggest names in traditional music, including Kate Rusby, Siobhan Miller, Emily Smith, Robyn Stapleton and many more, while local boy Ali, from Methven, Perthshire, has performed and worked alongside some of the most respected musicians and bands on the scene such as Capercaillie, Dougie Maclean, Carlos Nunez, Deaf Shepherd, Steve Forman and Shooglenifty to name but a few.

Donald Hay has appeared on recordings by Sting, Eliza Carthy (including her Mercury Award nominated Anglicana ), also Kate Rusby, Martin Carthy, Kathryn Tickell, The Battlefield Band and The Nuala Kennedy Band.

Together they create a sound that is uniquely Old Blind Dogs, which still stands at the forefront of the Scottish roots music revival. It’s fair to say that their style, drawing as it does from the rhythms of Middle Eastern, rock, reggae, jazz and blues music went on to influence many bands but nobody does it like the Dogs!

As fROOTS exclaimed, “They really understand musical storytelling, and know how to hold our attention, riveted, riveted, to each twist of the story.”
