Pitlochry Choral Search For Young Singing Stars

Do you know a young person who’s passionate about singing? A mini Russell Watson or Katherine Jenkins? Even the least likely pop singer and musical theatre celebrities spent their early years honing their gift in school and local choirs: Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Kristin Chenoweth, even Snoop Dogg!

If this is ringing bells for you or someone you know, Pitlochry Choral are on the lookout for young vocal performers to join their choir for the upcoming performance on the main stage at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, 7 April, 7.30pm.

You may not consider yourself a choral or classical music buff, but the chances are you will be very familiar with the latest choral work being brought to the stage by Pitlochry Choral. Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is a staple in popular culture: in sports coverage, in adverts, films and TV, even in video games. If you're a child of a certain age, it may well have been the Old Spice advert or The Omen movies that set it into your sub-conscious, or more recently the Scary Movies but, for the younger generation, it will almost certainly be The X Factor.

Norman Beedie, Pitlochry Choral’s Musical Director, is keen for up to 20 participants aged 10 -18 years, to take to the stage with the full choir. Leading up to the performance will be rehearsal sessions of 1.5 hours each, taking place at the theatre’s Port Na Craig rehearsal rooms, just ahead of the arrival of the full professional cast for the Summer Season. Young participants need to be able to hold a tune but no acting experience is required – just bring your voice and your enthusiasm!

Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s Artistic Director, Gemma Fairlie and Community and Education Director, Drew Scott, spearheading the extended children and families’ programme for Pitlochry Festival Theatre in this Year of Young People, told us, “This will be a great opportunity for local young people to gain stage experience as a singer, and to broaden their range under the tutelage of an internationally renowned conductor and pianist. If you do love singing then PFT’s stage is the perfect place to do it!”
