Pitlochry Festival Theatre celebrates festive musical success!

With two weeks still to go before the end of the run, Pitlochry Festival Theatre's acclaimed production of Singin’ In The Rain has become a Box Office sensation, outselling all previous winter musicals and pantomimes staged at the famous Theatre in the Hills.

On its rapid rise to the top, Singin’ In The Rain has outperformed the previous winter best-sellers, the 2012 and 2015 productions of Irving Berlin's White Christmas, as well as last year's Scrooge!, Miracle On 34th Street in 2014 and 2013's It’s A Wonderful Life.

To date, Singin’ In The Rain has been enjoyed by over 13,000 people, drawn from all across Scotland and the UK, and has generated the largest Box Office income ever, with House Full signs and standing ovations characterising the run so far!

“This is excellent news, both for PFT and for the local Perthshire economy”, said John Durnin, PFT’s Artistic Director, whose tenure at the Festival Theatre comes to a close after almost 15 years, with his production of Singin' In The Rain.

He continued: “Having programmed some 100 shows during my time at PFT, people tend to think that I know when a show will prove successful – but in reality, that's absolutely not the case. I was actually quite unsure about how this show would perform at the Box Office, given that Singin' In The Rain is PFT's first winter musical not to have a festive theme. Would a ‘straight’ musical work in the run up to Christmas? Well, the extraordinary enthusiasm for the show, which has come as a wonderful surprise, suggests that yes, a ‘straight’ musical can and does work at this time of the year. PFT's reputation as Scotland's leading producer of large-scale musical theatre seems now to be trusted by audiences to deliver work of the highest quality year-round.”

With tickets for most matinee performances now sold out, it’s Wednesday to Saturday evening performances (at 7pm) where there is the greatest choice of getting your hands on a ticket to this year's must-see theatre sensation.

Mr. Durnin added: “The final performance of Singin’ In The Rain is on the evening of Saturday 23rd December - and I don’t think there could be a better way to bring down the curtain on my time at PFT than with such a popular and magical show.”
