We’ve won for the Third Year in a row!

Pitlochry Festival Theatre has won Scotland’s Most Welcoming Theatre award - for the Third Year in a row!

UK Theatre – the umbrella organisation for theatre producers and venues throughout the UK – has just announced the 12 regional and national winners of the My Theatre Matters! Most Welcoming Theatre award, in association with Smooth Radio.

And after three weeks of voting by the general public, Pitlochry Festival Theatre (PFT) has been announced as the National Winner for Scotland in the Most Welcoming Theatre Award 2017 - for the third year in a row!

Of the 200 UK theatres who entered the competition, 12 were from Scotland, including Dundee Rep, the Royal Lyceum, the Citizens, the Kings Theatre – both Edinburgh and Glasgow - as well as the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, and the Theatre Royal, Glasgow.

PFT’s Artistic Director, John Durnin, commented:

“When we won the title of Scotland’s Most Welcoming Theatre last year, for the second time, we were delighted to have received such a positive endorsement from Scotland’s theatre-goers about the very high standards of customer service that we try to provide. To have won this title for a third year is even more of a thrill – to be honest, it feels simultaneously humbling and exhilarating!

We’ve always known how highly audiences value the work that we put on the stage: recently a first time visitor from America (living just outside New York City) posted a review on our TripAdvisor page which rated PFT as more satisfying than the Edinburgh Festival in terms of experience and performance. However, to deliver consistently, what many visitors call ‘The Pitlochry Experience’, the work on the stage has to be supported by many other high quality services. These are provided by our marvellous Front of House, Box Office, shop, restaurant and bar staff, and it is their hard work, their determination to ensure that everyone who visits the Theatre in the Hills shares in the warmest of Highland welcomes, that has been recognised and acknowledged by this award. They deserve all the credit for winning this title for PFT for a third time: I’m absolutely delighted for them!

We must also offer our sincere thanks to the many, many theatre-goers who voted for us. Having beaten off the challenges of all the other theatres in Scotland, we now have to wait to see whether this time we’ve done enough to win the coveted UK title!”

The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide awards to honour creative excellence and the outstanding achievement seen on and off stage throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. PFT will now join 11 other finalists to fight it out for the UK-wide award, which will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on Sunday 15th October.
