Shetland Arts

Heading north for tales of home

A mini series of writing from Shetland

Our partnership with Shetland Arts called out to community writers with whom they had been working to respond creatively to the idea of HOME. Six writers from Shetland sent in 13 pieces of writing on that theme, and their work was produced by Amy Liptrott, an Associate Director here at the Theatre. Amy worked with 11 actors to rehearse and record the monologues, four of which are, importantly, in Shetland dialect. Together, we  believe they will bring you Light, Hope and Joy.

Shetland Arts

Shetland Arts believe that “Art is a gift. It has the power to lift us up, to help us find expression and self-belief, and to make a profoundly positive difference to our lives.”

Shetland Arts places the arts at the heart of Shetland, to educate, promote, support and develop the practice and enjoyment of the arts by all. They run Mareel and the Garrison Theatre in Lerwick, and Bonhoga Gallery in Weisdale, as well as promoting a year-round programme of music, craft, theatre, literature, visual arts, dance and film events.

They support creative people and believe that creativity is an important part of everybody’s life, no matter who you are, where you live or what you do. They also see their challenge as being to enable and empower communities, groups and individuals to fulfil their creative potential.
