Louise Welsh: The Second Cut
Louise Welsh: The Second Cut
Winter Words Festival 2023
Friday 10 February
6.30-7.30pm
Louise Welsh is an award-winning author of eight novels and Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow and former antiquarian bookseller. Her latest book The Second Cut is a stylish, atmospheric detective story with shades of the Gothic and was shortlisted for the McIlvanney Prize 2022.
“Complex and very atmospheric, with plenty of sardonic humour and sharp observations about injustice” The Guardian
“I doubt I’ll read a better book this year. Dark, funny and humane, Louise Welsh tells the stories that nobody else dares” Val McDermid
The Second Cut is a compelling sequel to The Cutting Room, her debut novel, which won the Crime Writers’ Association John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award and the Saltire First Book of The Year Award. In 2018, Louise was named the Most Inspiring Saltire First Book Award winner by public vote. She is also a regular radio broadcaster and has published many short stories.
