Jane Harlington was born in Lancashire but has spent the last 25 years living and working in Scotland. She was trained in geology and countryside management and worked as a Ranger Naturalist for the N.T.S. In 1990 she took an Art & Design module with the Open College of the Arts and has since gone on to further her studies most recently at Edinburgh College of Art where she enjoyed printmaking. Jane now has her own studio and gallery on the Isle of Lewis where she teaches and is a visiting tutor for the East Sutherland Art Society. She has taken part in many solo and joint shows including the Royal College of Arts and the Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. Her mixed media techniques allow the exploration of materials ranging from watercolour through to oil pastel incorporating collage and found objects. This body of work reflects an interest in the passing moment, perhaps challenging the way everyday events and landmarks are perceived.
